The Norwegian Centre for International Economics (NORCIE) brings together researchers from the Department of Economics and ARENA, University of Oslo, Christian Michelsen’s Institute, and the Peace Research Institute Oslo. They are joined by researchers from a multitude of international institutions, including Stanford University, Oxford University, Imperial College, London, the European University Institute, the Indian Statistical Institute, Universidad de los Andes, and the South African Institute of International Affairs. The main aim is to strengthen Norway’s capacity to respond to major transformations and policy shifts in the international economy. NORCIE is an interdisciplinary centre, rooted in economics, political science, and geography. Its research is organized across five thematic pillars addressing structural changes and policy shifts: (i) Geopolitical Rivalry and Strategic Policy, (ii) Climate Change and International Economic Interdependencies, (iii) Disruptions to the International Economy, (iv) International Economic Governance, (v) Development and De-globalization.
NORCIE emphasizes evidence-based policy engagement. It will establish the GeoEconomics Dialogues – a platform for regular dialogue between researchers, policymakers, business, and civil society – and offer on-demand briefings to policy makers to make research insights quickly available. The centre's dialogue with stakeholders will secure a continuously updated and relevant research agenda.
NORCIE will serve as a national hub for international economics research, providing access to shared data, training, seminars, and workshops. It will develop a researcher-driven, interdisciplinary data and knowledge-sharing platform, creating lasting value for qualitative and quantitative studies on the international economy.
