Norwegian Fiscal Studies is a centre for tax research based at the Department of Economics at the University of Oslo and in collaboration with researchers from the University of Chicago and the Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research. The centre's overarching goal is to foster high-quality theoretical and empirical tax research that has practical relevance for the Norwegian tax system's design, administration, and enforcement.
Norwegian Fiscal Studies is a continuation of Oslo Fiscal Studies. We are financed by a five-year grant from the Research Council of Norway.
The economic analysis of taxation is difficult and interesting because agents adjust behaviour when a tax is introduced or changed. Providing knowledge about how different tax bases respond to changes in the tax structure and tax rates is the main objective for NFS. We believe this knowledge is best obtained by combining tax theory and cutting-edge empirical analysis of economic decisions made by firms and individuals.
