Academic interests

I am a development economist interested in the economics of remote rural areas. In recent projects, I ask questions like the following:

- Can community-based healthcare mitigate the adverse effects of climate change?

- Do upgrades to rural roads stimulate local economic activity and agricultural investments?

- How do rural marketplaces shape their surroundings?

Almost by definition, data on remote rural areas is hard to come by. Therefore, I'm developing novel methods to gather information in such contexts, including using high-frequency satellite imagery.

Background

I obtained my PhD from the Institute of International Economic Studies at Stockholm University in 2023. During my PhD I spent one semester as a visting student at UC Berkeley. Before joining UiO, I completed a postdoc at the Center for Food Security and the Environment at Stanford University.
