Academic interests

Asdals's research draws on a combination of resources from STS, political science and history. She is particularly concerned with studying the ways in which scientific knowledge interrelates with politics and the shaping of political issues. Her doctoral thesis is a broad historical study of the ways in which nature has been formed in technical, scientific and administrative practices, hence the title of her thesis: "The technologies of politics". Asdal has also taken an interest in feminist studies of science and the history as well as politics of Science and Technology Studies (STS), and has co-edited several textbooks on the subject. She has published widely on the history and philosophy of science. In recent years her research has also included the politics of food, and the history of medicine and veterinary science.

TIK/ESST Master and the specialization course ‘Science and Poitics in Controversies on Nature’ (TIK 4011) and the PhD course ‘Science and Technology Studies’.
 

Background

Kristin Asdal has a Master's degree (hovedfag) in economic history and a PhD in science and technology studies (STS)/history. Since 2009 she has been professor at TIK. She also holds a II position at the Norwegian institute for Consumer Research (SIFO). In 1999/2000 Asdal was a research fellow at Centre de Sociologie de l´innovation (CSI) at Ecole des Mines in Paris, later (Spring 2002) at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Lancaster. The Autumn 2007 she was visiting research associate at Oxford University Centre for the Environment (OUCE).
