On December 6th, the University of Oslo, in collaboration with Nytt norsk tidsskrift, organized a debate on research dissemination. Rector Svein Stølen and vice-rector Åse Gornitzka introduced the debate, which was based on an article they recently published in Nytt norsk tidsskrift. In the article, Stølen and Gornitzka argued for the need of a new report on research dissemination policy.

Editor-in-chief of Nytt norsk Tidsskrift, Vidar Enebakk, moderated the debate. In addition to Asdal, the debate panel consisted of Andrea O. Rognan and Johan Tønnesson. During the debate Asdal criticized the concept of "impact" and the idea that research is supposed to impact policy decisions. She noted that scientific resarch lays the foundation for debate, and that the concept of "formidling" (dissemination) therefore is more appropriate.
