TIK researchers presented evaluation of UiO: Life Science

How do universities organize research around complex societal challenges? How does interdisciplinarity work in practice? And how do researchers navigate expectations of societal relevance, utility, and innovation?

These were some of the questions addressed when TIK researchers Tone Druglitrø and Maximilian Fochler presented their evaluation of UiO: Life Science at a seminar organized by the Forum for Theory of Science. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion.

On 23 September, researchers and university leaders gathered at the University of Oslo for a seminar on the evaluation of UiO: Life Science, one of the university’s largest interdisciplinary initiatives.

Tone Druglitrø from TIK and Maximilian Fochler from the University of Vienna presented the evaluation report, which examines UiO: Life Science as a strategic initiative and experiences with organizing interdisciplinary research across disciplines and research communities.

The presentation was followed by a panel discussion. The participants were Mathilde Skoie, Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalisation at UiO; Jens Petter Berg, Vice-Rector for Life Sciences and Health Research; Carl-Henrik Gørbitz, Director of UiO: Life Science; Lise Øvreås, Professor at the University of Bergen and President of the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council; and Maria Bårdsen Hesjedal, Researcher at NTNU Social Research.
