Academic interests
My research interests are in the areas of software studies, science and technology studies (STS), digital STS, critical data studies, interaction design , human-computer interaction, affect theory and digital labour. I'm particularly interested in how human and nonhuman agency are negotiated within algorithmic systems and how the human voice became productive for AI innovation.
My PhD project at NorwAI concerns itself with the sociotechnical implications of automation in speech emotion recognition (SER). I am investigating the use of voice recognition software in call centres, telecare and health care. I study the production of such a software and the 'data work' that is needed to collect, curate, and maintain voice data and their infrastructures. I'm questioning how the material aspect of the voice signal is mathematically figured and configured through its digitalisation and automated within particular data infrastructures. Therefore, I study in detail particular open source data-sets, data work, annotation guidelines, and open source code within a European research community that formed itself around voice analytics. Which databases are created to infrastructure data pipelines and how do they streamline data in health care between the private and the public sector?
