Spring 2026
The course is delivered through two sessions, attendance on both is required to pass this course:
- 19th March
- 23rd April
Deadline: 20th February
Target group
This course is aimed at PhD candidates and who have little or no teaching experience. The course is available for all PhD candidates admitted to the PhD programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Educational Sciences, and PhD Candidates in their Completion Grant period at the Faculty of Humanities.
A former participant had this to say about the usefulness of the Starter Kit course:
This course gave me more tools for my teaching toolbox and enabled me to reflect on my own teaching to a larger extent. It was also great to talk to other PhD candidates about their experience and thoughts on teaching
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course:
- You can explain fundamental pedagogical models in teaching in higher education.
- You can apply techniques and strategies for promoting active learning in the planning and implementation of your own teaching activities.
- You can critically evaluate your own pedagogical practice and identify opportunities for further development based on research-informed pedagogical practices.
Organisation
The total workload is 20 hours, including preparations, and participants will be credited 15 hours of UNIPED course time. The development of your teaching competencies will be advanced through the systematic application of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) framework.
