About the project
The project, or centre, studies challenges in the application of European Economic Area (EEA) law in Norway. It focuses on the implementation of EU law at a national level in general, and the implementation of EEA regulations in Norwegian law in particular. The centre analyses three main challenges to implementing EEA law into Norwegian law:
- Discovering the EEA dimension in law
- Interpreting and applying EEA law
- Addressing potential tensions between EEA law and domestic law.
Objectives
EurNor’s primary objective is to ensure better integration of EEA law and domestic (Norwegian) law, by improving the understanding of the complexity of the legal questions arising from the integration of EEA law in Norwegian law as well as the underlying causes for misapplication of EEA law, thereby reducing the risk of future wrongful application of EEA law.
Further, a proper understanding of EEA law is necessary in order to, within the framework set by EEA law, formulate national policy objectives and adopt measures to achieve them. By establishing what national authorities must do, and must not do, it is also possible to establish what they may do.
The secondary objectives are:
- Enhance interdisciplinary cooperation between researchers from law and social sciences, including the development of interdisciplinary methods
- Enhance cooperation with other researchers in Norway and internationally, including with the other centre financed under the call
- Increase the skills of law students and legal professionals in interpreting and applying EEA law, and
- Increase the awareness of the impact of EEA law on Norwegian law in society at large.
