Christian Krohn-Hansen er professor ved Sosialantropologisk institutt. Han har særlig arbeidet med forståelsen av politiske og økonomiske prosesser, og med karibiske og latinamerikanske studier. (For informasjon om publikasjoner, se nederst på denne siden.)

Om

Christian Krohn-Hansen har i en årrekke arbeidet med det krysskulturelle studiet av politisk liv. Han har vært opptatt av forståelsen av makt og vold, og av stats- og nasjonsbyggingsprosesser. I tillegg har han arbeidet med former for økonomisk antropologi -- med studier av arbeid og handel, av former for entreprenørskap, og av internasjonal arbeidsmigrasjon. Han er også opptatt av andre temaer -- som miljøspørsmål og miljøpolitikk, forståelsen av mannlighet, antropologiens forhold til historie, og vilkåret for feltarbeidet, eller det etnografiske arbeidet, i store bysamfunn og metropoler (som for eksempel Santo Domingo og New York). Han har gjort feltarbeid i Den dominikanske republikk, USA, og Colombia. Hans nyeste bok er Jobless Growth in the Dominican Republic: Disorganization, Precarity, and Livelihoods, som utkom i mai 2022. Boken, som bygger på feltarbeid og vever sammen etnografi og historie, rommer en undersøkelse av den folkelige økonomien i den dominikanske hovedstaden Santo Domingo. Samtidig diskuterer den, og søker å gi svar på, et bredere spørsmål: Hvordan undersøker og forstår vi best de folkelige økonomiene i de mange enorme bysamfunnene som i løpet av de siste tiårene har vokst fram i det globale Sør? Samtidig fortsetter han å arbeide med det spansktalende Amerika og karibiske studier. 

Krohn-Hansen er medlem av det internasjonale redaksjonsrådet til tidsskriftet Ethnos, og var fra 2008 til 2012, sammen med Ingjerd Hoem, redaktør av Norsk Antropologisk Tidsskrift. Han sitter for tiden i instituttets styre og er i tillegg medlem av styret for Senter for utvikling og miljø (SUM). Fra 2011 til 2014 var han instituttets nestleder og leder av instituttets doktorgradsprogram. Han har vært gjesteforsker ved University of Chicago (i 2015-2016); ved University of Michigan (i 2005); ved Queens College, City University of New York (i 2002); og ved Johns Hopkins University (i 1994).
