The course was taught in collaboration with a PhD course organised by Kregg Hetherington at Concordia, and students at both sites met online to explore water-related social histories and ecological assemblages at each site.
In Oslo, Knut G Nustad, Heather Swanson, and Pierre du Plessis were joined by Patrizio McLelland from Concordia, who acted as a link between the two places. The groups also joined online for presentations by Nikhil Anand, Andrea Ballestero and Nikiwe Solomon.
We explored different field practices for knowing riverscapes, using observation techniques drawn from ethnographic methods and natural history, and moving beyond rivers themselves, as waters are by their very nature connected to landscapes.
Activities included mapping, stream walks, expert talks/dialogues, and a tour of the Bekkelaget Cleaning facility. The course was developed in collaboration with the network partners, and funded by the RCN.
