Academic Interests

Fürst has completed fieldwork in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, and the work is published in the book Hva skal vi med frihet? Fortellinger fra Moldova før, under og etter Sovjetunionen (Abstrakt) (What's freedom to us? Stories from Moldova before, during and after the Soviet Union). Furst has since 2006 led the project Informal Child Migration in Europe, a cross-disciplinary project financed by the Norwegian Research Council. Fürst' part is titled "Women who migrate – children who are left behind. Moldovan children in informal networks of care." She has recently started a new project in the field of medical anthropolgy in which empirical observations of a case of brain injury is studied in relation to theories of the body as well as epistemology. This is related to her earlier works on body and mind when this was studied in relation to food as a social, cultural and psychological phenomenon as well as to gender.
