Psychology Without Borders

New horizons for teaching and research collaboration between Norway and Brazil

With the view of promoting cooperation in academic education and research between the Department of Psychology (UiO), the Department of Psychology (UFPE)  and the Department of Psychobiology (UNIFESP), the project “Psychology across cultures: new horizons for teaching and research collaboration between Norway and Brazil” aims to create joint educational and research programmes by exchanging students, scholars and researchers.

About the project

The main goals of this project are

  • to develop a new educational cooperation between the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo (UiO), the Department of Psychology at Federal University of Pernambuco – UFPE and the Department of Psychobiology at Federal University of São Paulo - UNIFESP
  • to increase the quality of education at the three institutions by incorporating cross-cultural knowledge and practices
  • to increase the cross-cultural competences among students and staff

Objectives

The project will be a unique opportunity for students, administrative and academic staffs to learn and exchange about different education and research traditions as well as cultural values and practices.

Cooperating with Latin America, the goal is to see students, administrative and academic staffs to achieve a mutual understanding of the cultural differences and similarities between Norway and Brazil, therefore integrating cultural diversity and different approaches in Psychology in their teaching and research activities.

Additionally, the goal is to strengthen the knowledge for new education and research collaborations between UiO, UFPE, UNIFESP. Including two institutions in Brazil from different cultural backgrounds (Northeast and Southeast of Brazil) with different research/teaching traditions foster comparative perspectives and approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in Psychology between Norway and Brazil.

For PhD and Academic staff

The project offers a rich opportunity for non-permanent and permanent academic staff for creating research and teaching collaboration by spending time in either Recife, Brazil at the Department of Psychology at Federal University of Pernambuco or Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Department of Psychobiology at Federal University of São Paulo.

The experience aims to provide an exchange about different education, research and cultural practices between Norway and Brazil. The project:

  • Will give the opportunity to teach in existing courses and evolve cross cultural research collaborations
  • Will cover travel, accommodation and per diem expenses for up to two weeks

In total the goal is to exchange 20 administrative and academic staffs for teaching and research collaboration. There will also be opportunities for a joint summer school and research internship at the master program.
