LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of mental health challenges than the general population, often due to minority stress, stigma, and discrimination. While research has begun to explore the mental health needs and barriers experienced by LGBTQ+ people, less is known about the perspectives of the mental health care providers who serve them. Provider perspectives are crucial for understanding how mental health services can be made more accessible, affirming, and effective for LGBTQ+ people.

This project aims to synthesize existing research on health care providers’ perspectives regarding the needs, barriers, and facilitators in delivering mental health services to LGBTQ+ individuals. By mapping current evidence, the review seeks to identify knowledge gaps and inform future efforts to enhance provider competence and reduce disparities in LGBTQ+ mental health care.

By mapping both international and Scandinavian findings, the project aims to support more accessible, inclusive, and effective mental health services for LGBTQ+ people.
