CTNC unites top-level infrastructure and expertise for cognitive and translational neuroscience with a focus on humans. It supports interdisciplinary research activities through education, training, and consulting (e.g., seminars, workshops), the provision of state-of-the-art and next-generation infrastructure for neuroscientific studies in humans, and thus acts as a facilitation hub for the advancement of research and innovation. The facility has a number of research assistants to organize and guide data collection. In addition, an engineer resource is available for researchers through RITMO and PSI.

The facility consists of several equipment packages, software, and rooms for human laboratory experimental research. CTNC is currently developing a BookitLab application for booking and maintenance of the equipment and experiment rooms. CTNC is located at the Department of Psychology (Faculty of Social Sciences) and closely collaborates with the Intervention Center (IVS) at Oslo University Hospital (OUH).

Topics

Baby Research

  • A room equipped with an eye-tracker (EyeLink 1000 with arm mount) to conduct gaze-contingent studies with infants and young children.
  • An adjacent room that functions as a reception area with changing facilities, play area, and it can be used to perform audio and/or video recording of dyadic interactions.

Cognitive Electrophysiology

  • Electrically shielded chambers with equipment for multichannel electroencephalography (EEG) recordings in human adults and children (from 32 up to 256 channels). Fully mobile EEG systems are also available.
  • Electrocardiography, electromyography, pupillometry, eye-tracking etc.
  • Intracranial EEG system for high-speed electro-cortical recordings, e.g. in epilepsy patients.

Eye Tracking

  • Description coming...

Experimental Neuropsychology

  • Hard- and software for computer-controlled experimentation with adult and infant humans (sensory stimulation, response recording, cognitive task batteries).
  • Computerised or paper-based neuropsychological testing (e.g., general intellectual abilities, executive functioning, attention, and memory).

Functional Neuromodulation

  • Access to methods for non-invasive modulation of brain activity, e.g., through transcranial electrical stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), or real-time neurofeedback of bio-signals (e.g., derived from EEG or functional magnetic resonance imaging; fMRI).

Multimodal Imaging

  • 3T MRI scanner for structural and functional imaging in humans, equipped for parallel measurements of EEG, pupillometry/eye-tracking, as well as concurrent electrical brain stimulation.

Sleep Research

  • Polysomnography (recordings of EEG, EMG, ECG, etc.) and actigraphy (wrist watches for the measurement of sleep parameters and motor activity) are core methods for the assessment of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of sleep.
  • We provide means for both at-home monitoring an in-house lab-based studies of sleep.

Signal Analysis

  • High-performance computing for tha analysis of bio-signals or big-data is made possible through local high-performance workstations with server access.
  • Services cover access to both commercial as well as in-house and open source software for advanced signal analysis and machine learning.

Virtual Reality

  • Visualization and monitoring equipment for the simulation of immersive virtual 3D environments.
