Academic Interests
I am Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. My research focuses on the relationship between mental disorders, cognitive difficulties, and everyday functioning in children, adolescents, and adults, particularly in ADHD and psychotic disorders.
I lead a longitudinal study of children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders and psychosis, as well as a multicenter randomized controlled trial on the treatment of attention difficulties in adolescents with ADHD. The aim is to develop knowledge that can improve adaptation and treatment for individuals with these difficulties.
Teaching
I teach and supervise in the professional program in psychology, with a main emphasis on assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders and psychosis. In addition, I teach clinical neuropsychology, adult ADHD, and the understanding and treatment of psychosis and comorbid substance use in adults.
Background
I hold a cand.psychol. degree (1992) and a dr.psychol. degree (1999) from the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo, and I qualified as a specialist in clinical neuropsychology in 2002. I have worked in the educational-psychological service and in child and adolescent mental health services (BUP), and for 15 years I held a public contract in clinical neuropsychology in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. I have also held research positions in specialist health services, including as postdoctoral fellow and senior researcher at Innlandet Hospital Trust.
Since 2016 I have been Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Oslo, and I also work as a research advisor (20%) at Innlandet Hospital Trust.
Research and supervision
I have led and currently lead projects on cognitive and emotional development in ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, and psychotic disorders, including studies of cognitive remediation in schizophrenia. I have supervised a number of PhD projects on neurodevelopmental disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, cognitive functioning, and long-term outcomes, and I am main or co-supervisor for several ongoing PhD projects in these areas.
