How can we foster belonging and social connectedness in a time of rising inequality and social exclusion? This will be the central theme of the 2025 PROMENTA Conference. Over two days, we will explore new research and approaches in the fields of quality of life and mental health. Together, we aim to deepen our understanding of how growing social inequality and exclusion affect mental health and well-being and discuss pathways that promote equity, belonging, and social connectedness.

Extraordinary advances in human genetics have taken place since the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. But much of this new knowledge on how our DNA shapes us has neglected to consider the social context. Likewise, social science research often ignores the role of genetics. This conference features interdisciplinary research that gets to the heart of how biological and social factors jointly shape our lives. We will discuss how genetic and social influences interact to shape human traits and behaviours as diverse as fertility, personality, educational pathways and political participation.
