When applying for funding, researchers are almost always asked to explain the expected impact of their projects. What kinds of strategies and approaches can you use to engage potential users of your research (e.g. policy-makers, healthcare services, municipalities, or others) so that the results may come to use?
Silje Tellmann is Associate Professor at the Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK). She has done research on the interplay between academia and society at The Oslo Institute for Research on the Impact of Science OSIRIS (2017-2024). In this breakfast seminar she will share insights from her research about how science is used in society and what both researchers and users can do to make impact happen. Tellmann has studied the impact of research, particularly from the user’s perspective, and has also examined how impact is evaluated.

Elin Lerum Boasson is Professor in Political Science and will discuss how she works to increase the impact of her research, and how to write convincingly about impact in research applications. Boasson has extensive experience with summarizing and disseminating climate research for policy makers and writing about impact in grant applications. She has been a lead author for the IPCC and the only non-Swedish member of the Swedish Climate Policy Council, where she has advised civil servants and decision-makers on climate governance
The aim of this breakfast seminar is to inspire you and offer concrete ideas on how you, as a researcher, can work so that your research may potentially make a difference beyond academia.
There will be time for questions after the presentations.
