Academic interests
Gvantsa Kheladze’s research examines the implications of the European Union’s geopolitical turn for human rights promotion and civil society engagement in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region, with a particular focus on Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova. The research investigates the EU’s effectiveness as a promoter of human rights and explores the resilience of civil society in the face of political resistance. Ultimately, the study aims to provide insights into the balance the EU must strike between strategic interests and its commitment to democratic governance.
The research is carried out as a part of the EUFOG project, which explores how EU foreign policy responds to these new international realities in a broad range of issue areas, from security to trade to human rights.
Her interests include EU institutions, EU’s role as a geopolitical actor, Eastern partnership region, rule of law and comparative politics.
