Paul Hawken
Paul Hawken is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, journalist, and author. Starting at age 20, he dedicated his life to sustainability and changing the relationship between business and the environment. His practice has included starting and running ecological businesses, writing and teaching about the impact of commerce on living systems, and consulting with governments and corporations on economic development, industrial ecology, and environmental policy.
Bård Vegar Solhjell
Bård Vegar Solhjell is the Norwegian Minister of the Environment. Solhjell was elected to Parliament in 2009 for Akershus County. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence as well as the Parliamentary leader of the Socialist Left Party's group. He is one of two deputy leaders of the Socialist Left Party since 2007 and a member of its central committee since 1999.
Bill Aal
Bill Aal has extensive experience as a developer and IT manager. As Managing Partner of Unconference.net he designs and facilitates highly participatory events for the scientific and IT communities. He supports communities across North America to create resilient grass roots approaches to the triple challenges of climate change, peak energy and economic instability. He is also the principal of Tools for Change, which explores the relationship between spirituality, social and ecological justice.
Eva Bakkeslett
Eva Bakkeslett is an artist who shows, lectures and performs her work nationally and internationally using a combination of film, performative talks and social sculpture. She holds an MA in Arts & Ecology from Dartington College of Art in England. Eva has collaborated with the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at University of Oslo for the last four years.
Amy Balkin
Amy Balkin's work involves land and the geopolitical relationships that frame it. Her solo and collaborative projects consider legal borders and systems, environmental justice, and the allocation of common-pool resources. These include A People's Archive of Sinking and Melting (2012) and Public Smog (2006+), an atmospheric park, two ongoing projects concerned with climate change. She was a collaborator on Invisible-5 (2006), an environmental justice audio tour of California’s I-5 freeway corridor. She lives in San Francisco, where she co-teaches for the MFA Social Practice Workshop at the California College of the Arts.
Nnimmo Bassey
Nnimmo Bassey is director of an ecological think-tank, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) and Coordinator of Oilwatch International. He chairs the Board of Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigeria. Bassey has authored books on the environment, architecture and poetry. Among is works is To Cook a Continent – Destructive Extraction and the Climate Crisis in Africa (2012). He was a co-recipient of the 2010 Right Livelihood Award also known as the “Alternative Noble Prize.” In 2012 he was received the Rafto Human Rights Award.
Lan Marie Nguyen Berg
Lan Marie Nguyen Berg has been active in the Norwegian climate movement since 2009. She led the climate policy group of the youth organization Spire, followed the climate negotiations and has done several information projects on climate change the past years. In 2011 she spent 5 months blogging from the low lying Pacific island state Tuvalu. Now she is a MA student at Center for Development and Environment, University of Oslo.
Frans Berkhout
Frans Berkhout is Professor of Innovation and Sustainability at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM), VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands where he is also director of the Amsterdam Global Change Institute. Professor Berkhout’s more recent research has been concerned with socio-technical innovation, policy and sustainability, with a focus on climate policy.
Tone Kristin Bjordam
Norwegian artist Tone Kristin Bjordam works with video, animation films, photography, painting, drawing, objects and installation. Bjordam has for many years been working on projects visualizing the movement and progression of liquid color in fluids and unfolding organic forms in motion. She stages controlled, yet playful experiments and creates imaginary landscapes. Inspired by discussions with scientist Marten Scheffer who studies the nature of change she recently made the film Critical Transitions
Ioan Fazey
Ioan Fazey is a Professor Social Dimensions of Environmental Change Geography, School of Environment, University of Dundee, UK. He has diverse interests and an interdisciplinary background in human-environment relationships. His work has included studies of how people understand and learn in complex environments, values of the environment, participatory development, vulnerability and adaptation and processes of knowledge exchange. This has been in diverse contexts including Australia, Solomon Islands, Romania and the UK.
Geoff Fitch
Geoff Fitch is founder and co-creator of the internationally acclaimed program on conscious planetary leadership at Pacific Integral, where he has supported hundreds of individuals to deeper awareness, presence and expression in their lives. Geoff is a coach, trainer, and facilitator of transformative growth in individuals and organizations, and has been facilitating transformative retreat experiences worldwide for the past ten years.
Carl Folke
Professor Carl Folke is a world renowned researcher within biosphere research, the social and economic dimension of ecosystem management and proactive measures to manage resilience. He is Science Director of the Stockholm Resilience Centre and Director of the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics. He is among the founders of the Resilience Alliance and serves on the Executive Committee. He was involved in developing the International Society for Ecological Economics and in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
Futurefarmers/Amy Franceschini
Futurefarmers is a group of practitioners who come together to make work that responds to the time and space around them. Aligned through an interest in creating tactile frameworks for exchange that catalyze moments of “not knowing”, they create spaces and experiences where the logic of a situation disappears – where moments of surprise and wonder open the possibility for new and unexpected encounters. Collectively, they teach in the visual arts programs at California College of the Arts and Stanford University and have exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Museum of Modern Art and Solomon R. Guggenheim.
Des Gasper
Des Gasper is professor in human development, development ethics and public policy at the International Institute for Social Studies, The Hauge. With vast experience working as a development economist in Africa, he completed his PhD in policy analysis and evaluation at the University of East Anglia in 1986. Since then, his research interests have been within various facets of policy discourse and human well-being.
Anil Gupta
Anil K Gupta, Professor at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and the Founder, Honey Bee Network. His mission is to expand the global as well as local space for grassroots innovators to ensure recognition, respect and reward for them; blending excellence in formal and informal science; protection of intellectual property rights of the innovators but also expanding open source as a part of ‘technology commons’; creating knowledge network at different levels for augmenting grassroots green innovations and inventions in informal and formal sector. Member of many governmental and corporate bodies, Prof. Gupta is a widely published author.
Heide Hackmann
Heide Hackmann is the Executive Director of the International Social Science Council. Heide has worked as a science policy maker, researcher and consultant in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and South Africa. Her research interests have been on science policy studies, the governance of science, and research evaluation. In addition to having directed numerous international research and science-policy initiatives over the years, she is also a member of many policy and advisory committees.
Bronwyn Hayward
Dr Bronwyn Hayward is political scientist, geographer and senior lecturer in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Her focus is in the area of governments' responsibilities to communities in a changing world-with a particular emphasis on youth and children in periods of environmental, social and economic change. Her most recent book is Children, Citizenship and Environment: Nurturing a democratic imagination in a changing world (Routledge).
Mark Howden
Dr Mark Howden is a Chief Research Scientist with Australia's national research agency, CSIRO. He leads a group of about 120 researchers in the CSIRO Climate Adaptation Flagship and is an Honorary Professor at Melbourne University, School of Land and Food. Mark has been a major contributor to the IPCC since 1992.
Cecilie Mauritzen
Cecilie is a physical oceanographer, specialising in large-scale ocean circulation and ocean heat- and freshwater uptake. She has been lead author for IPCCs Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports, and has contributed to a wide variety of international panels. As director of CICERO she is particularly concerned with the art of communicating climate change.
Riel Miller
Riel Miller is Head of Foresight at UNESCO, Paris. He is a global specialist in designing and implementing strategic foresight projects. For three decades his work has concentrated on how to assess and direct the potential for socio-economic transformation in the private and public sectors.
Susanne Moser
Susanne Moser is Director of Susanne Moser Research & Consulting in Santa Cruz, California and a Social Science Research Fellow at Stanford’s Woods Institute for the Environment. Her work with local, state and federal agencies and others focuses on adaptation, communication, and science-policy interactions. Dr. Moser has contributed to IPCC, US national, and regional assessments. She has been recognized as a fellow of the Aldo Leopold Leadership, Kavli Frontiers of Science, UCAR Leadership, Donella Meadows Leadership, and Google Science Communication Programs.
Karina Mullen
A lifelong learner, Karina is delighted to be a visual practitioner where she is constantly growing and expanding her perspectives on the world. Using hand-drawn images and text helps her clients visualize new futures, see systems and patterns and synthesize information to help groups better collaborate and find solutions. Karina's background in environmental communication, group dynamics, and visual learning has led to national and international projects with corporate, government, non-profit and higher education groups. Her unique skill set of authentic listening, creative illustration and understanding of learning styles facilitates collaboration, understanding and creative thinking.
Per Olsson
Per Olsson is a researcher and theme leader for Adaptive Governance at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. His primary research interest is in linked social-ecological system dynamics and resilience. His current research is in global sustainability transformations and how to reverse current trends of crossing critical thresholds and tipping points in the Earth system. This involves studies of agency, social-ecological innovations, and the emergence of new, multi-level governance regimes in response to uncertainty and rapid change.
Karen O'Brien
Karen O’Brien is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at the University of Oslo, Norway. Her research focuses on climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation and the implications for human security. She is particularly interested in the relationship between personal, cultural, organizational and systems transformation, including how transdisciplinary and integral approaches to global change research can contribute to a better understanding of how societies both create and respond to change.
Debra Roberts
Debra Roberts has worked in the city of Durban as a local government practitioner since the advent of democracy in South Africa in 1994. Her major focus areas are climate change adaptation and biodiversity planning in the African urban context. Prior to this she was a researcher and lecturer at the (then) University of Natal.
Jean Russell
Jean Russell is a facilitator, speaker, and writer of culture change. She is a founder of the thrivability movement. Jean curated, “Thrivability: A Collaborative Sketch” and currently writes passionately about “The Great Unfolding” (publication in July 2013) and “Action Spectrum: Navigating a Rapidly Shifting World.”
Helge Ryggvik
Helge Ryggvik is an economic historian at the Center for Innovation and Culture at the University of Oslo. He has a special interest in Norwegian oil industry, which commonly also features as his empirical starting point. Additionally, he has worked on topics as trade unions and Norwegian railways. His methodological approaches range from political economy to more specific analyses of humans relations to technology.
Asuncion Lera St. Clair
Asuncion Lera St. Clair, philosopher and sociologist, is Research Director at the International Centre for Climate and Environmental Research-Oslo. St. Clair is Lead Author of the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Her research interests are focused on the relations between transformative change, critical poverty studies, climate change, development ethics, human rights and global justice, with a particular focus on epistemology and processes of knowledge production; and the role of donor and multilateral organizations.
Gunhild Stordalen
Gunhild A. Stordalen is the Founder and CEO of GreeNudge, which initiate and promote research on behavioural measures to mitigate climate change. Stordalen is a medical doctor and holds a PhD in pathology/orthopedic surgery and she focuses her work on the link between climate and health, in particular the public health co-benefits of climate mitigation strategies such as reducing meat consumption and enabling safer and more convenient active transport in cities. Dr. Stordalen serves on the boards of the European Climate Foundation and the Zero Emission Resource Organization.
J. David Tabara
David Tabara works at the Global Climate Forum and is associate senior researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is a member the European Sustainability Science Group, founding member and currently part of the Board of the Research Committee on Environment and Society of the International Sociological Association.
Frances Westley
Dr. Westley is a renowned scholar and consultant in the areas of social innovation, strategies for sustainable development, strategic change, visionary leadership and inter-organizational collaboration. Her best known book, Getting to Maybe (Random House, 2006) focuses the dynamics of social innovation, and institutional entrepreneurship in complex adaptive systems.
