"Waterfront Speculation" at EASA2024

The PORTS-project was well represented at EASA, where several of its team members were involved in a panel on how maritime urban spaces can become sites of speculation at the margins of land and water.

"Doing and Undoing with Anthropology" was the theme of the European Association of Social Anthropologists' conference in 2024. Various members and longer-term collaborators of the ports-team assembled for that occasion.

"Waterfront Speculation. Doing and Undoing Maritime Spaces" was co-convened by Luisa Piart (Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology), Johanna Markkula (Central European University) and Giorgos Poulimenakos, who is a PhD Fellow in the PORTS-project. Hege Leivestad functioned as chair, while Jon Schubert (University of Basel), Nikhil Anand (University of Pennsylvania), and Brenda Chalfin (University of Florida and Aarhus University), together with PORTS-PI Elisabeth Schober, were discussants to a collection of various papers.
