A Journey with Amber, a film by Sarah Møller Christensen

Supported by the ERC and the UiO: Energy and Environment initiative, the film follows the "Amber Worlds" team over two weeks of travelling and research in Poland and Lithuania.

In March 2025 the "Amber Worlds" team spent two weeks travelling across Poland and Lithuania -- a key project milestone that brought together team members and a few key interlocutors from different fieldsites. The film follows this journey as an ongoing attempt to trace amber’s contemporary worlds -- from museum collections and jewellery workshops in Warsaw, to open-pit mines in the Lublin region, to the Baltic shores of Klaipėda and the “amber capital” of Gdańsk. Along the way, the film introduces the broader aims of the Amber Worlds project: to understand how amber connects distant places, histories, and ways of life. It aims to bring viewers into the team’s ongoing discussions about extraction and labour, trade and value, scientific knowledge and local expertise, and the politics and ethics that shape amber’s global circulation.
