This interdisciplinary and community-based workshop focuses on the rapid environmental and territorial transformations affecting coastal municipalities in Senegal such as Bargny, Sendou and Yenne, where large-scale port developments, new industrial zones and energy projects such as oil infrastructures are reshaping livelihoods, landscapes and coastal ecosystems. These dynamics are compounded by coastal erosion, pollution and land pressures, particularly affecting fishing communities and residents.

Held in Bargny on 17–18 January 2026, the workshop brings together local communities, women engaged in social and environmental struggles, fishers, researchers, civil society organisations and institutions. It combines panels, participatory mapping and a podcast-based documentation process to support community-led environmental diagnostics and collective reflection on environmental justice.

The event is organised in collaboration with RAPEN, Teranga Lab, the Ecocitizen Observatory and the Laboratory “Environment, Health and Societies” at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), and is funded by the Energy and Environment Fund at the University of Oslo.
