Faglige interesser

Faglig interesser, både forskningsmessig og undervisningsmessig, er først og fremst knyttet til temaer rundt flyktninger, menneskerettighetsbrudd og psykologiske konsekvenser av dette, samt behandling og rehabilitering av mennesker utsatt for tortur og andre grove overgrep.

Forskningstemaer har vært knyttet til psykologisk behandling av flyktninger, både individuelt og i familier, blant annet gjennom prosjekter ved Psykososialt senter for flyktninger (”Poliklinikk prosjektet” og ”Familieterapi med flyktninger”). Ledet et samarbeidsprosjekt i regi av NUFU mellom UiO og Universidad Centro Americana, Nicaragua i tiden 1996 – 2000. Forskning gjennomført i forbindelse med dette prosjektet utgjorde deler av mitt doktorgradsarbeid. Gjennomførte et familieterapi prosjekt med flyktningfamilier i samarbeid med Psykologisk Institutt, Professor Sissel Reichelt og Psykososialt senter. Ledet gjennomføring av to prosjekter knyttet til helse i mottak, på oppdrag av Sosial og Helsedirektoratet, ved NKVTS.

Pågående prosjekter:Prosjektet "Dealing with the past. Victims’ experiences of transitional justice in Argentina and Peru”, under Latin Amerika programmet i Norsk Forskningsråd er i sin avsluttende fase. Her har hovedmålet vært å samle mer kunnskap om overleveres og ofres opplevelse av rettferdighet og erfaringer med straffeprosesser etter grove menneskerettighetsbrudd. Det er mennesker som utsatt for de grove overgrepene i Argentina og Peru som er blitt intervjuet i tillegg til en rekke andre som har hatt aktive roller i tilknytning til rettsoppgjørene, både som advokater og dommere, helsepersonell, forskere og personer fra frivillige organisasjoner.

Et annet prosjekt er “Bearing Witness: Victim Participation at the International Criminal Court” som gjennomføres i samarbeid med Human Rights Center på UC Berkeley School of Law, og Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO). Her studeres erfaringer ved den Internasjonale straffedomstolen i tilknytning til vitne deltakelse.

Et prosjekt i tilknytning til flyktningfamilier har stått sentralt, med særlig fokus på familiegjenforening i eksil (”Gjenforening av flyktningsfamilier i eksil”). Dette er et samarbeid blant annet med RVTS Midt-Norge og en veileder om forebyggende tiltak i forbindelse med familiegjenforening er nylig publisert. Prosjektet ”Identifisering av sårbare grupper blant asylsøkere i Norge og EU – En komparativ studie” i regi av Institutt for Samfunnsforskning, finansiert av UDI, med fokus på muligheter for identifisering og oppfølging av sårbare asylsøkere er avsluttet, men dette følges opp i samarbeid med norske myndigheter, først og fremst UDI og SH-dir.

Bakgrunn

  • Utdannet ved Psykologisk Institutt, UiO: cand.psychol. i 1975

  • Dr.psychol. i 2001 (Avhandling: “Restructuring meaning after uprooting and violence. Psychosocial interventions in refugee receiving and in post-conflict societies”).

  • Spesialist i klinisk psykologi, medlem av Norsk Psykologforening. Har innehatt psykologstilling ved spesialskole, i PP-tjenesten og i psykisk helsevern for Barn og Unge.

  • Har siden studietiden hatt et spesielt fokus på mennesker med flyktningbakgrunn, og da spesielt mennesker som har vært traumatisert i forbindelse med grove menneskerettighetsbrudd og konflikt.

  • I 1986 ble jeg tilsatt ved Psykososialt Team for flyktninger, senere Psykososialt senter for flyktninger, UiO der jeg var til nedleggelsen i 2004. Ble da tilsatt som leder av Seksjon for flyktninghelse og tvungen migrasjon ved Nasjonalt Kunnskapssenter om Vold og Traumatisk Stress.

  • Siden høsten 2008 ansatt ved Psykologisk Institutt som første amanuensis.

  • Innvalgt som medlem av FNs tortur komité i 2005, og gjenvalgt i 2009 frem til 2013

  • Bidro til å etablere et menneskerettighetsutvalg i Norsk Psykologforening i 1998 og har siden da sittet som leder av utvalget.
  • Leder Health and Human Rights Info, et prosjekt med formål å formidle kunnskap, retningslinjer og erfaringer til personer som i sitt arbeid møter mennesker utsatt for grove menneskerettighetsbrudd i forbindelse med krig, konflikt og katastrofe (www.hhri.org). Utviklet en manual om arbeid med kvinner utsatt for seksuell vold i konflikt.

  • Tidligere norsk redaktør av Nordic Psychology, og publisert bøker, kapitler og artikler innenfor feltet flyktninger, menneskerettigheter, klinisk og politisk psykologi.
