About the group
Speeding up climate action and reaching net-zero targets requires rapid social, economic, and political change. This process is already unfolding. More and better knowledge about causes and effects of climate governance may facilitate the transitions. Hence, social science is becoming increasingly important within climate science.
Many leading social climate science groups are located within the Oslo area, as part of as well as outside the University of Oslo. While many of these groups perform outstanding research on burning research questions relating to the climate transition, but dialogue across the groups is limited. This is especially true for the University of Oslo’s various departments and centres.
The RISCS network will create venues for social climate science discussions in Oslo. Many climate researchers in Oslo have strong international ties, but it would be an advantage if more discussions about how to move international research frontiers took place at open events in Oslo. This can strengthen many of the related research communities, foster new research ideas and methods, and reduce the need for academic travel.
The RISCS-network aims to:
- Spur more dialogue across social science research communities in Oslo
- Strengthen internationalization
- Foster development of new research ideas
The RISCS-network was established in the spring of 2023, and during the first year it hosted short seminar series on ongoing research projects in the Oslo area.
In 2024, we shifted the format to half day seminars, with a mixture of presenters from Oslo, and abroad. This series have received funding from UiO:Energi og miljø.
RISCS hosts 2-3 half day seminars every year, which you can find under events.
