Academic interests

Vlad Makszimov is interested in the possibilities and means of democratic legitimation within the European Union’s legal construction. His PhD project takes a closer look at the relationship between the European Court of Justice (CJEU), legal elites and the wider public, investigating the circumstances under which judges may become responsive to the opinions of various audiences.

His wider research interests include comparative judicial politics, European institutions, the role of the media in European integration as well as the link between public opinion and EU law enforcement.

Background

Makszimov holds a Master's in International Security from Paris School of International Affairs (Sciences Po) and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Social Research & Public Policy from New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi. After brief experiences in international organizations, he worked as a journalist in Brussels covering rule of law, enlargement and cohesion policy.
