REMAIN examines how settled refugees experience belonging, participation and wellbeing in Norwegian rural municipalities. Building on the government's policy of dispersed refugee settlement, the project asks what it takes for refugees to thrive and remain in these communities long-term. Through qualitative fieldwork, including interviews, observation, integration panels and public dialogue meetings across four case municipalities, an interdisciplinary team from NTNU, NTNU Social Research, UiT, the University of Oslo and Malmö University generates knowledge to support sustainable local communities throughout Norway.
