Academic interests
My research is concerned with the manner the future is represented in fiction (and beyond), with a particular emphasis on the climate crisis. Catastrophes and an increased awareness of the need for fast, green transition of the economy creates challenges for a petrostate like Norway. For, ‘what shall we live on after oil?’ as the popular question asks. Through readings of novels and TV series I scrutinize the manners in which humans are paralyzed by fear and uncertainty in the face of the market and catastrophes, where I contribute to discussions concerned with why the green transition is absent in the ‘world’s richest state’ and beyond.
More generally, I am interested in psychoanalysis, political economy, liberal critique of planning, the history of (urban) planning, geopolitics, and cultural geography.
The last three years I have written a book on urbanism and modernism (På sporet av den tapte fremtid, ROM forlag, 2023); co-edited an anthology on debt (Norske skyldnere, SAP, 2024); and (with Daniel Vernegg) translated Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism and Andreas Malm's How to Blow Up a Pipeline to the Norwegian in 2023 and 2024, respectively. More of my publications are listed below.
