In this working paper, Are Skeie Hermansen and co-authors study the evolving isolation of higher earners from other employees. They do this using linked employer-employee data from eleven countries. Their findings show a growing workplace isolation of top earners' exposure to bottom earners. They also find that residential segregation is growing, with top earners and bottom earners increasingly living in different municipalities. The two are correlated and statistical modeling suggest that the primary causal effect is from work to residential segregation.
The WAGE project seeks to examine how oil workers in Norway, Nigeria, US and Canada assess their own role in a green transformation.
The primary objective of the project is to study the remittance practices and their consequences with standard of living and the integration process of Tamils living in Scandinavian capitals, Oslo Copenhagen and Stockholm.
From August 2009 there is need for research assistance with EUMARGINS at the University of Oslo. Students with a Bachelor degree (minimum) in Social Sciences, basic experiences with qualitative methods and who have interest in research within the field of migration are potential candidates. Verbal Norwegian skills and good proficiency in written English are required. Persons with ethnic minority backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
There is need for assistance with field work (qualitative interviews, observations, photography), transcribing interviews and editing research publications (language, layout), amongst others. Workload will vary in time.
