A maximum extension of two weeks can be granted within the same semester. If you need more than a two-week extension, the submission deadline can be postponed to the next semester.
Students with disabilities or special needs can apply for special examination arrangements.

1. Extended deadline within the same semester
A maximum extension of two weeks can be granted within the same semester.
An extended deadline is granted only in special circumstances, primarily for documented illness during the last four weeks before the submission deadline. Long-term illness may also provide grounds for an extended submission deadline.
You are not entitled to supervision after the original submission deadline has passed.
To apply for an extended submission deadline in the current semester, you must complete the application form and attach the required documentation. For applications based on illness, a medical certificate is required that specifies the period affected, the extent to which your work or study capacity has been reduced, as well as the date and signature of the healthcare provider. The department will reject the application if the medical certificate is incomplete.

2. Postpone submission to the next semester
If you need more than a two-week extension due to illness, it may be applicable to apply for reduced study progression or leave of absence.
If you need an extension without a reason related to illness, you can contact post@stv.uio.no and request an extension to the next semester. This extension will be granted without the need for documentation, and the degree will be completed after the standard time for completion of the degree.
This should be done in the same semester as the original submission deadline:
- You should withdraw your examination registration in Studentweb to avoid using an examination attempt. The withdrawal deadline is two weeks before the submission deadline.
- You should use all your supervision hours as you are not entitled to supervision after the original submission deadline. Learn more about the supervision contract here.
- You have to read the information about the admission to a study program at UiO.
This should be done in the semester in which you intend to submit:
- You have to read the information about submission, deadlines, and oral exams on the course page.
- You have to pay the semester fee and register in Studentweb to make your examination registration valid. This must be done by September 1st for the fall semester and February 1st for the spring semester.
- You have to inform post@stv.uio.no that you intend to submit as soon as you have paid the semester fee.
Additional information for those who have lost their admission to a study program at UiO:
- You must apply for the reinstatement of your right to study to submit the thesis and complete the master’s degree. Your application, which includes a progress plan and a brief description of the thesis's topic and research question, should be sent to post@stv.uio.no by August 15th for the fall semester and January 15th for the spring semester.
- You must have completed 75 credits of the Peace and Conflict Studies master’s course.
- You can only submit the master’s thesis and are not allowed to take exams for other courses.
- You are not entitled to more supervision or support from the department.
