Exclusive workshop: Aftenposten editor coaches you in writing your own op-ed

Do you need practice sharpening your message? Would you like to develop an op-ed that really reaches your audience? This is a unique opportunity to take part in a hands-on workshop with Aftenposten’s op-ed editor, Erik Tornes. He will read your draft op-ed and provide suggestions for improvement.

The workshop is a dedicated offer for researchers at the Faculty of Social Sciences who want to crack the code of what makes an op-ed engaging and effective.

Course leader Erik Tornes is debate editor at Aftenposten, and has many years of experience helping academics and others communicate their message to a wider public.

On your own terms

Writing an op-ed is a unique opportunity to communicate your own research and expertise on your own terms, while maintaining control of your message.

The workshop takes place on 26 May — one month after Erik Tornes has given a lecture on the genre at "The Academic Breakfast Club" on 30 April.

Between the lecture and the course, you submit a draft which Tornes reviews in advance. When you and the other participants meet on 26 May from 12:00–15:00, you will discuss and work on the drafts together.

Excellent feedback

Tornes' previous workshops at the Faculty of Social Sciences have received excellent feedback. Several participants from earlier worksops have succeeded in getting their opinion pieces published.

The workshop is held in English, but drafts may be submitted in Norwegian.

Sign up by contacting communications adviser Gro Lien Garbo before 15 May: g.l.garbo@sv.uio.no.
