Guest student on master's courses at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography

You can apply to be a guest student at most master-level courses offered by Department of Sociology and Human Geography (ISS). Guest students can attend lectures and seminars in master's courses, and may sit the examination.

Admission as a guest student will vary from semester to semester, as guest students will be allotted any vacant seats on the course.

You find information on each course description page as to whether guest students are accepted on the course.

You can apply if

  • you are enrolled in another master's programme at UiO or another Norwegian university/university college, and the administrator for your programme confirms that the course can be included in your master's degree
     
  • OR you have completed a graduate degree in Human Geography at UiO or another Norwegian university/university college (for courses in human geography)
     
  • OR you have completed a graduate degree in Sociology at UiO or another Norwegian university/university college (for courses in sociology)

Are you enrolled in a master's programme at the University of Oslo?

  • Ask your programme administrator to confirm in writing that the course can be included in your master's degree. This confirmation must be sent with the application (nettskjema).

Are you enrolled in a master's programme at another university or university college?

  • Ask your programme administrator to confirm in writing that the course can be included in your master's degree. This confirmation must be sent with the application (nettskjema).
  • You must also include the following documentation with your application:
  • NB! If you have not previously been enrolled at the University of Oslo, you must also apply to be a single course student. Please note that the deadlines are earlier for this, see below page for deadlines and application form.

Application period

For admission to courses in the autumn semester: 

  • June 1st until August 1st.

For admission to courses in the spring semester: 

  • December 1st to January 1st.

How to apply?

You must send an application through nettskjema.no. Please note that you must have the confirmation from your programme administrator before you apply (upload to the application).

You must check if the course will be taught the semester you want admission. This information can be found on the course description page from approximately May 25th for the autumn semester, and November 25th for the spring semester.

if you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information regarding student exhange. Your home university must have an exchange agreement with UiO. Exchange students apply for courses through their home university.
 

Answer to application

The applications will we assessed after the deadline has expired.

The answer is sent by e-mail.
