Academic interests
I study political behavior in regimes where democracy is not fully established. Unavoidably, this entails the question of when a regime is democratic or to which extent it can be considered democratic. Nevertheless, my empirical focus is on regimes outside the West, and particularly former British colonies. To study the behavior of political elites and citizens in these regimes, I apply natural language processing techniques to text data from debates in parliament and social media content.
