Lars Wenaas

Lars Wenaas started his ph.d at TIK Senter for teknologi, innovasjon og kultur i 2017. He is on a public sector-ph.d-scheme which is financed by Research Council Norway and his employer Unit. The ph.d-project is also connected to Osiris - Oslo Institute for Research on the Impact of Science.

His projects is on Open Access and academic publishing. Access to the research literature is limited and represents a barrier for researchers in their quest for new knowledge, but also a barrier for non-academic users outside academia. Arguments for Open Access speaks for an advantage in terms of innovation in both the public and private sector. Open Access also has an economical side as access to scientific literature is achieved through increasingly expensive subscription schemes.

Open Access is a political hot topic in Norway as emphasized by the launch of "National Guidelines for Open Access to Research Results” and Plan S. But does Open Access deliver as promised and how does Open Access affect the research system in a wider context?
