New book on nuclear legacies in Russia and Central Asia
Susanne Bauer (TIK) and Tanja Penter (Heidelberg University) have published “Tracing the Atom. Nuclear Legacies in Russia and Central Asia” with Routledge, London (open access).
The manuscript for this book went to press in early 2022 – weeks before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Upon publication, war at nuclear facilities in Chernobyl’s exclusion zones and the capture of Europe’s largest atomic power plant in Zaporizhzhya have raised unprecedented issues and new questions. This points to the importance of studies into the emergent aftermaths of nuclear programs and the geopolitical legacies of the atomic era.
