Final seminar: Resource redeployment from established industries to cleantech industries: the case of oil and gas industry and offshore wind in Norway

Tuukka Mäkitie is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK). This seminar marks his final evaluation prior to submission of his dissertation.

Project description

Tuukka's PhD project investigates the redeployment of resources, such as capabilities and technologies, from the fossil fuel industry to offshore wind power in Norway, and how this has influenced the emergence of the latter industry. Using multiple data sources and research methods, Tuukka's dissertation finds out that established industries like oil and gas may have a role to play in supporting sustainability transitions through redeployment of accumulated resources and established technologies in cleantech industries. However, this is unlikely to be a simple technology transfer process. Instead, the engagement of established industries may depend on e.g. the prevailing conditions particularly in their core market, and the relevant institutions of the industries.
