Approximation as Interpretive Appropriation. Guaraní-inspired ceramics in Misiones, Argentina
Chapter by Arnd Schneider.
With his chapter in Creativity in Transition: Politics and Aesthetics of Cultural Production Across the Globe, Arnd Schneider aims to investigate and critically theorize practices of appropriation from indigenous cultures among urban-based potters in northeast Argentina.
The different projects reviewed in this article allow us to recalibrate ideas about where creativity is located, and how it is worked through in social and material practices. In the ceramic workshops of two museums in Posadas, creativity is expressed through the elaboration and interpretation of "small differences" in the recreation of archaeological pieces from the ancient Guaraní.
