Daniel Miller: "Why We Post"

Is our privacy threatened by social media? Are we losing the ability to concentrate? Daniel Miller is a Professor in Anthropology at the University College London (UCL) and will present the findings from his Project "Why We Post".

Danny Millers prosject "Why we post" har researched the effect of social media world wide. The impact of social media is controversial and continuously a topic of debate.  Have we lost even the possibility of privacy? Has our attention span diminished? Are young people obsessed by selfies?

This lecture presents the results of studies from eight countries to show how anthropology can reveal  the use and consequences of social media,  including the rise of visual communication and the impact on issues such as gender, individualism and politics.

Miller is invited by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Social Anthropology, to hold one of five lectures in honour of Eilert Sundt, who is considered to be the first social scientist in Norway.
