Abstract In the seminar Nolwazi Mkhwanazi, Professor of social anthropology at the University of the Witwatersrand, SA,  will discuss her work on kinship and families in South Africa over the last two decades, from her focus on teen-aged pregnancy to young families and recently, to the issue of care within families before and during the time of COVID.

Biography   Nolwazi Mkhwanazi is an associate professor in Anthropology and director of the Medical Humanities program at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic research (WiSER). She is co-editor (with Deevia Bhana) on "Young families: Gender, sexuality and care" (2017) and (with Lenore Manderson) "Connected Lives: Families, households, health and care in contemporary South Africa" (2020).
