Teoretiske og metodologiske investeringer

Min forskning dreier seg rundt ungdom, embodiment, seksualitet, kjønn og emosjonelt velvære.Jeg bruker en tverrfaglig tilnærming for å utforske disse områdene, og trekker på kritiske psykologiske tilnærminger til diskurser og empirisk forskning på emosjonelt velvære, og poststrukturelle feministiske og skeive (queer) forståelser av embodiment og subjektivitet.

Mitt arbeid er i stor grad kvalitativt, med vekt på metodologiske tilnærminger som muliggjør kritisk analyse av forholdet mellom det individualistiske planet (erfaringer, språk, subjektivitet) og det sosio-kulturelle planet (diskurs, maktrelasjoner, sosio-politiske kontekster).

  • Kroppslige og diskursive intervensjoner:

Denne studien undersøker hvordan unge mennesker som erfarer atypisk seksuell utvikling produseres (klinisk og diskursivt) som forståelige subjekter.Fokuset er på unge menneskers erfaringer og kjønnet embodiment. Studien undersøker de meningsskapende endeavours bestrebelsene for de som kjemper mot spesielle typer av psyko-medisinske intervensjoner med intersexbarn og -ungdom.

Unge LGBTIQ mennesker og selvskadingDenne studien benytter seg av online metoder for å undersøke hva som ligger bak de høye ratene av selvskading som har blitt rapportert blant unge mennesker hvis seksualitet eller kjønnsidentitet er marginalisert. Fokuset er på hvordan unge menneskers forståelse av emosjonelt velvære, seksuell- og kjønnsidentitet og kropp er representert i deres perspektiver på emosjonell uro og DSH.

Bakgrunn

  • Katrina Roen har en Ph.d i Feminist Studies (1999, University of Canterbury, New Zealand)

  • Master i Psykologi (1994, Waikato University, New Zealand).

  • Doktorgradsforskningen hennes fokuserte på hvilken betydning transseksuelle og transkjønnede personer tillegger kjønn og hvordan de situerer sine egne erfaringer av kjønn i relasjon til psyko-medisinske diskurser på ”kjønnsidentitetsforstyrrelse” (Gender Identity Disorder).
