Methodological Development

PROMENTA uses a range of different research methods. We ensure that methodological approaches are adapted to the needs of our research groups and improve the use of our data.

Different research methods provide the framework within which we ask our questions, and for the answers the data gives us. In this research group we contribute to adapting new methods, from our own and adjacent fields, to the needs of PROMENTA. We also work on disseminating these research methods internally in the Research Center and in teaching at the Department.

Research questions

Researchers routinely analyze large datasets with many explanatory variables. These datasets are often a combination of public registry data, genetic analyses or data collected from internet based activity. We’re especially concerned with the following questions:

  • How can we best use longitudinal data sets with very many explanatory variables to  discover causal mechanisms?
  • How can we better measure psychological concepts such as personality or mental disorders though data from sensors in mobile units or internet activity?

How we work

We collaborate across all research groups in PROMENTA to address methodological needs. In addition to improving the usage of existing data, we are also developing an IT infrastructure for collecting data through mobile devices.
