Research Assistant wanted for research on nuclear weapons disarmament and nonproliferation
We are recruiting 1 full time research assistant to assist with research and administrative tasks focusing on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation at the Department of Political Science, UiO. The position is funded by Alva Myrdal Center. The main tasks will include background research, archival research (in Norwegian archives), administrative assistance and web design.
The research assistant will work with Prof. Målfrid Braut-Hegghammer. The tasks will include background research (in English and Norwegian), collecting and organizing archival documents, preparation of working group meetings (including workshop organizing, writing meeting reports, and other light administrative tasks). The research assistant will also help compile a new website for research dissemination.
The research assistant will be assigned different tasks:
- Collect, systematize and analyze archival documents in Norwegian and English;
- Literature searches and reviews
- Web design and data visualization
- Administrative tasks (background research, reporting, organizing workshops, etc.)
The candidate is expected to be highly organized, have strong research methods, and be able to work independently as well as in a team.
One or more of the following skills are desirable:
- Experience with analyzing and organizing historical and contemporary sources (including being able to work with Norwegian documents)
- Web design skills and experience
- Experience with administrative tasks
Candidate should be able to document good grades, especially in courses in research methods, and writing skills in English and Norwegian. Interest in international security and nuclear weapons is desirable.

About the position
We offer a salary of NOK 419 600 (LT 44) for candidates with a BA degree, 468 300 (LT 51) for candidates with an MA degree.To be contracted as a research assistant, you will have to be a Norwegian tax resident. The position is therefore primarily open to candidates who are based in Norway.
Doctoral students and candidates with a PhD degree cannot hold a position as research assistant (SKO 1019/1020).
There is a maximum limit of 2 years to the employment as research assistant, regardless of the percentage of work. If you have prior experience from the same position, this is counted as part of the total hiring period.
