Academic interests

Manne Gerell primarily focuses on the geography of crime, policing and gang violence in his research. He primarily works with quantitative methods, often with a geographical component, bus has published qualitative work as well. He is an associate professor at Malmö Uni, currently on half time leave to work at the University of Oslo. In Oslo he works on Criminal exposure in Vulnerable areas under Torbjörn Skardhamar. 
He is leading a research project in Malmö focusing on improving the Malmö police work to reduce crime and fear and a research project in Gothenburg where he will help evaluate a £1 billion property company investment aiming to improve the situation in vulnerable neighborhoods. 

Background

Gerell got his PhD from Malmö University in 2017, became assistant professor at Malmö Uni in 2018 and associate professor in 2020. He has also worked part time for the operations division for the Swedish police as an analyst focusing on vulnerable neighborhoods.
