ESOP was awarded the Centre of Excellence (CoE) title by the Norwegian Research Council (RCN) in 2007. The research centre has throughout these years produced a vast amount of research focusing on the links between equality, social organization, and economic performance, both in rich and poor countries. ESOP will no longer be a part of the CoE programme but the centre continues with fresh funding.
