Municipality Property Tax and Housing Prices in Norway

Abstract:

Residential properties are subject to wealth tax and local property tax in Norway, however, average housing prices have been climbing since the 80s. One widely agreed reason is that the Norwegian tax system favours home-ownership over renting, as there is a preferential property tax rate on residential properties. This essay asks: How do residential property tax affect local housing prices in Norway?
