In Chapter 6, Guri Rosén explains the rationale for the expansion of European Parliament competences over trade policy in the Treaty of Lisbon as way of enhancing the democratic legitimacy of trade policy and aligning it with other policies. She also analyses the Parliament's exercise of its new powers in the ratification of the EU's Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Republic of Korea and during the negotiations of TTIP.
