Joris Melman

Academic interests
Joris Melman is one of three early stage researchers at ARENA who are part of the PLATO project, a European training network (MSCA-ITN) composed of 15 PhD candidates who all contribute to one overall research question: Did the way the EU handled the financial crisis contribute to creating a deeper legitimacy crisis?
Melman’s PhD project investigates public opinion on the Euro with the dual purpose of understanding better its legitimacy, firstly, and gaining more insight into the citizens legitimating reasoning, secondly.
Background
Melman holds a BSc. and an MSc. in political science from the University of Amsterdam and an MA in philosophy from Leiden University. He has previously worked at the Dutch embassy in New Dehli, at De Groene Amsterdammer (the Netherlands' oldest newsmagazine), and fintech startup TAPP.
