Academic interests

Jan Pesl is one of three early stage researchers at ARENA who are part of the PLATO project, a European training network (MSCA-ITN) composed of 15 PhD candidates who all contribute to one overall research question: Did the way the EU handled the financial crisis contribute to creating a deeper legitimacy crisis?

Pesl’s main academic interests lie within the field of pragmatic and cultural sociology of critique that investigates how people go about construing what they find just and legitimate.

Jan holds a Master degree in Sociology and a Bachelor degree in International Relations and Sociology from Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. Besides of his MA programme, Jan has also spent one academic year at the University of Bergen in Norway studying System dynamics.
