How was the far right able to foreclose Sweden's NATO entry? How the transnational nature of the Nordic far right allows the Sweden Democrats to serve as a hub of non-parliamentary right-wing organizing — even from their insider position.

The Swedish general elections are held on 11 September. This upcoming election in Sweden shows how quickly and willingly mainstream right parties adjust their policies and strategies if the only way to power goes through the far right. 

The contribution from the Scandinavian far right – the Danish People’s Party (DF) and the Sweden Democrats (SD) – to Salvini's alliance, the European Alliance of People and Nations, is likely to be very small. In short, because DF is losing support and because SD is uninterested in joining.

This paper tests the explanatory power of a deliberative and an intergovernmental approach with regards to small state influence within the EU's external policy. It provides a detailed analysis of the Swedish-Finnish initiative on including crisis management in the Amsterdam Treaty in 1997.

During the past 20 years, Sweden has had an annual immigration of more than 50,000 people. It is estimated that the number of foreign-born people in Sweden will increase. By the year 2014, about 14.5 per cent will be foreign-born and in 2050 about 18 per cent (SCB 2005). These numbers stress the need for research and better knowledge on integration processes. The Swedish EUMARGINS team is located in Gothenburg, and is interviewing young adult immigrants from different parts and places of the city. See glimpses from the various localities.
