Innovation
Innovation studies is an interdisciplinary field, the purpose of which is to study the complex and dynamic relations between social and technological forces that contribute to innovation in different contexts (i.e. firms, industries, nations).
Most countries and regions are seeking creative ways to accelerate economic and social development. The point of departure for innovation- studies is the insight that technological change and learning are the main drivers of economic growth and social change. The field includes studies of:
- what constitutes innovation
- how economic growth is driven by innovation and technological change
- how learning and knowledge creation are underlying processes of innovation
- how knowledge is created and how its production can be fostered
- how new technologies are developed and diffused
- how innovation is a systemic phenomenon which entails the the interaction of organisations, institutions, policy and politics
